Where to start, I'm struggling...

Good Afternoon Ladies and Gents..I'm in need of some help please, if you don't mind! I have spent all morning looking through all the threads and I have made myself quite giddy. I have had credit cards in the past which have had PPI and I would like to start a claim. The cards I had were with Capital one, M&S and House of Fraser. I do not have any statements of ref no'S as it all was shredded before I moved house 2 years ago. I cannot see where to start? I keep ending up at the Ombudman's questionaire! I feel like just giving up and going to one of those companies that do it all for you. could someone please point me in a direction other than the Ombudsmans!
Thank you in advance,
Molly x

I was very similar, no account numbers etc. This is how I started:

1.I got a copy of my credit report which helped me to sort out dates I had the accounts etc.
    2. I then checked my bank statements for account numbers paid - Direct debit ref numbers etc. I didn't find all but did find some.
    3. I have sent off a SAR letter to each company - (data subject access request) which will give me all the information they hold. Costs £10, You don't have to do this, you could just ask for a copy of the agreeement, or just put a complaint in with the company if you are sure it was mis sold. At least this way I know all of the info they know.
    4. I will then put my complaints in when I get the info back.

I also had no account numbers to go on.

I first accessed my credit report and took a note of all the banks I had cards with, noted the dates the account was open for and noted my name and address at the time I had the account.

I then looked up the phone numbers for these banks online. When I eventually got through I said 'I had an account/credit card with you from ....to... can you tell me if there was PPI on the account. I went through some very easy security questions and if they confimed PPI was paid they would either ask if I wanted to claim it back and they would ask on what grounds I wanted to claim or they would give me the dedicated PPI claim number to phone.

If I had to phone a PPI number I just gave them the account number and answered the questions they asked.

So far out of 5 PPI requests I have not had to pay any money to get documentation (I had to pay £15 to access my credit report through Credit Expert). All banks (apparent from 1) have been really helpful. I've had money back from 1 and the other 4 I only started phoning last Thursday, so fingers crossed.

It can be a long process but you just have to be patient.
