using netstumbler

Hi, I read about netstumbler when I was trying to find out why my dh's laptop keeps on getting a 'limited or no connectivity' message. I have downloaded it to see if other nearby networks are affecting ours. Problem is, I cant for the life of me work out how to use it :confused: . There is a yellow triangle at the bottom of the box and it says 'no wireless adaptor found' does this mean it wont work? I have tried it on our wired desktop too and get the same message. I would be really grateful if someone could tell me in non techie terms how to do it :o

  • Is the wireless adapter enabled? Control Panel - Network Connections and enable it if not.

    On Network Stumbler Device menu click 'Use any suitable device'.

    Does "anyone" know how to run/operate networkstumbler...??

    I have a flashing symbol that says No APs active and another that says GPS disabled..

    Should i be able to see all local networks.. or not..???

    I think i am getting channel interference.. my wireless works fine most of the time, but in the evenings a lot more networks become visible to me and my router starts acting up..
    drops connection.
    wont connect.
    says its connected but wont show the internet.
    asks me for my wpa key..( doesnt normally ask, it just remembers.)

    ?????. help..

    No APs active means it can't find any other wireless routers, including yours.
    Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:

    Doesn't work with all WiFi cards (problems with some chip-sets), link to the NetStumbler forum http://www.netstumbler.org/forumdisplay.php?f=4

    I had the same symptoms with a Linksys card.
