ESA Medical results - how long?

Hoping someone can give me an idea of how long you normally have to wait for the results of an Atos medical for an ESA claim.
I had my medical 4 weeks ago and have heard nothing. I phoned Jobcentre to enquire, but they said that there is nothing on their system yet. I wanted to know before I go to see my occupational therapist today, in case I need a supportive letter from her for an appeal. This waiting is driving me mad.

  • It really can vary to 2 weeks to months really. sorry i cannot be of much help it depends how many case loads ATOS have too, i can relate to it driving you up the wall i too was going mad waiting for a decision on my ESA claim.

Good luck and i hope you get the outcome you want.
  • It might be worth you requesting from the DWP (number at top of ESA letters) a copy of your ATOS medical report (ESAS85) if you had a face to face medical or pre-board medical report (ESA85A) if not... it isn't the decision but it would give a good idea of what may be expected. I would expect you'll get decision soon although they may fail to inform you so I'd watch your bank account for any changes in payment amounts and contact them perhaps every week or two until as such time you find out.

They may not write to you, i had this with my 2nd medical, i only knew i was kept on it cos i got a payment (and then rang up to check), that was after 3 weeks.

In fact i have sneaking suspicion they've done it again since my last medical, i got money yesterday as normal (4 weeks on )..must ring them

  • Thanks everyone for advice. It's my first time applying and I'm getting stressed up about it.

    Hi there

My sister had her board 5 weeks ago and has heard nothing. Her money has been paid into her bank account as usual. I would like to know is this normal procedure and could I ring up on her behalf to find out what if any decision has been made.

    Thanks

    In general, no.
You need to either get made an appointee, or have their written consent to do so.

Being an appointee means you are dealing with the benefit people on their behalf, and you get their mail from the DWP.
You can also do it if she's willing to confirm on the phone that you can act for her.
