Overseas buyer - sending UK only

Hi All,
I've got an auction finishing tomorrow but I've just seen that an American buyer has bought, I've checked the details and it definately says only sending to UK, what are my options?
I know that it is possible to cancel bids etc, 1 how do you do it, and do you email the bidder and state I'm cancelling due to the fact that I'm only sending to UK and your abroad?
TIA - KG

You are within your rights to refuse to sell to him - but consider that the transaction may be perfectly smooth. If you accept paypal, payment won't be a problem, and you can ask for the extra postage it will cost.
When you cancel a bid, you can put whatever reason you like. Not sure of the process though as I've never had to do it.My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Thanks FF, I will see if someone else will outbid her (currently have 1 watcher), so fingers crossed that if they're outbid I won't need to send abroad. From their feedback she's a quick payer and I only use paypal so that's not going to be a problem. If she is winner I will get it packaged and ready for postage then get it priced up and then I can send her that invoice if she really wants the item or we can mutually withdraw I'm sure.0

As long as the buyer is prepared to pay the high postage it's really no more difficult to send things abroad than within the UK, just a couple of extra labels. So if your item sells for a good price I'd go ahead with it but just bump up the postage a bit for your trouble!Oh dear, here we go again.0

Hi Jennyjelly,
I'm just a bit perplexed as to why she's bought (ok she's not got a high FB - 9 in 2.5 years all from buying) but I thought that a pair of branded jeans would be cheaper in USA than here! They're not for 99p either! Fair enough that they've still got labels attached but still thinking why on earth ...

why don't you work out what postage will be and send them a message checking that they are willing to pay it
if they are not then you can cancel their bid0 -
kiwigirl,
The same thing has happened to me only she was the winning bidder. I was puzzled as I thought the ebay system prevented overseas bidders but decided to just play along as it's a low value item. Her ebay address said she was in Canada so I took the parcel down to check postage then emailed her, she emailed back saying she was in Turkey!
I've emailed her for the right address and got a second quote on postage but I am beginning to think a second chance offer might be the simplest option for me!
Hopefully yours will be simpler!

What happens to Paypal protection if you ship abroad.
How will you prove despatch to Paypal’s satisfaction in the unlikely event that the buyer claims non receipt and does a chargeback?0
