My 17 year old daughter has been advised to take long term sickness, her tutor has suggested a learning break, what does this really mean, other than she can go back at any time she wants...even if its next year, its not really what she wants, she certainly doesn't want to go back next year....any suggestions from you students???
Also she suggested that she goes for just a couple of hours on each of her days if she wants BUT its not really possible as she has to go by bus about twenty miles, and i cant take her the 3 days as have other kids to get to school ect!!!
Thanks if anyone can help

Hi, she is doing Air cabin crew, level 2 diploma.0

Her tutor obviously thinks your daughter is not capable of continuing studying at the current intensity due to her ill health.
He's trying to find a way to work around her ill health so she doesn't have to give up on her studies altogether.
A learning break is a good idea if she's likely to get better over time as it means she can take a year and then pick up where she left off.
You don't say what her health issues are but presuming they're severely affecting her studies it seems she has a number of options:
1) Take a break, recover and go back to complete the course
2) Spread her studies over the week, only going in a few hours a day
3)Carry on as she is until she burns out and is forced to quit for the sake of her health
4) Carry on as she is until the college decides she's unfit for her course and asks her to leave - presumably being a member of an air cabin crew requires a certain level of good health?
5) Quit completely.
Her tutor has suggested the first two options to try to avoid the other 3.
I have a long term illness myself and I know how frustrating and upsetting it can be when it appears to be stopping you doing what you want to do and the desire is to fight and not let it affect what you're doing which in general is good.
However your daughter needs to be sensible and try to think about it logically rather than emotionally as it's no good ruining her health trying to carry on as she is if that's likely to lead to her being unable to complete the course to a standard she's capable of or prevents her from continuing the career path she wants.
I hope she manages to come to an arrangement with the college she's happy with and her health improves soon.0 -
Thanks for that MrsManda, i cant really go into her illness as its personal to her and wouldn't be fair, but all i can say is its not down to a given time (ie its not like you've got tonisiltus you'll be fine in a week)....its going to be how she deals with it, but she is going to get half term over with then see how she feels...me personally i would be quite happy with her quitting this year, and re starting next but its not what she wants, this is her second year first year was travel and tourism, so at the end of this year she will be qualified for a number of different airport jobs.....if the jobs are there to be had, and her health permits.
Her tutor is the one who wants her to do a few hours each day, it was her line manager who suggest the learning break.
Thanks again for the help0
