New business - job title struggle?

You might need to use a dual job title like "owner and lead writer" or "founder and editor-in-chief" to convey that you own the company and also what creative work you do for the company. My job title is "Boss" if anyone asks though I try and avoid using titles. Staff get very petty about who has what job title when we all do a similar job day to day.0

Exactly, and whilst discredited already it was worth mentioning as the OP is a sole trader and had consider Managing Director.pitkin2020 wrote: »The only titles you can't really use are those associated directly with a limited company such as director.
I have a consultancy background and so used to not having an externally visible job title... never felt the need to create one for myself.0 -
If you make all financial decisions and decisions regarding the work you take on or refuse to take on, then "principal" would be suitable I think. I would keep away from using the term "manager". That could mean almost anything from managing the days of the week the office waste is collected to owner of the firm responsible for everything that firm does. As other have said "director" is usually used only in the a Ltd company and because many ltd companies nowadays are often owned and run by just one person for tax advantage purposes that term has been devalued in recent years.0

If it's a new business, informally I'd denote myself as the 'founder'. Formally, in the UK, you'd probably be 'Director' or 'Managing Director'.0

You could rename the business after yourself then people would know they were talking to the boss
Sorry in advance if it's a stupid idea0 -
In my opinion you can call yourself whatever you want to if your a sole trader or ltd company.
I call myself a few different things business owner if anybody cold calls me selling advertising I tell them that the salon manager name is Janice and to ring back when she isn't busy lol0 -

Those titles will give the impression that the business is a Ltd Co when its not so you are misleading clients.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
My bad, overlooked the fact the business isn't a LTD as you mention. Those titles will give the impression that the business is a Ltd Co when its not so you are misleading clients.0
