Hi,
Does anyone have any ideas about pricing for a service on a 05 1.6 ford focus?
Local ford garage quoting £174 for full service.
Will shop around but what should I expect to pay?
Cheers,
BnE

If it is a major service (every 37500 miles) then £174 is good. Ford do a value service for £99 with a years free AA roadside and home start but if it is due a major service, I'd have that done as there are several things not included in the value service.
I had my 2004 MK3 Mondeo serviced according to Ford schedule since new. I've just sold it with 165k on the clock and the only thing picked up last service were the rear indicator bulbs no longer being orange enough.0 -
Just had a further look into it.
According to the age of he vehicle it is due an interim service.
I've had it for a year and although all the stamps are in the log book, it's not clear when or if it has ever had a major service. All servicing has been done at ford apart from the last one last year - when I bought it - which was done at an independent garage (the one that I bought it from).
Ford's prices are as follows:
£195.29 interim Ford service.
£236 major Ford service.
The branch offers their "own" services:
£99 interim
£174 full service (but not a major service?!)
Basically they are saying a major Ford service will cover more things - spark plugs etc. and includes more checks specific to vehicle and age etc.
It's a bit confusing and I am thinking of going for the £174 service. It will be Ford stamped and includes:
oil change
oil filter change
air filter change
pollen filter change
air con andtibacterial gubbins
aa cover for a year (not needed).
Any thoughts? What would you do?0 -
Independent would charge about £100+VAT for that, plus spark plug replacement as well (without the AA cover which will be adding around £25 to the bill and if it isn't needed, is a waste of money).
£175 is not extortionate for a main dealer though. It's an 05 car so questionable whether you really need to be following Ford's schedule rigidly any more -- just make sure that the big-ticket stuff like cambelts are done on time (which won't be included on the figures quoted here).
You don't have a full dealer service history any more so no point really in taking it back to Ford. These are common cars and any decent garage can deal with them.0 -

Thanks jase.
Where do you find out when stuff like cambelts need doing?0 -

You do need the spark plugs doing. If you don't do them then it leads to faults occuring in plug leads/coil packs as the spark plugs need a higher current as the plug gap increases to create a spark. The spark plugs are about £30 OTTOMH and they can be a real !!!!!! to get out so worth paying someone to do it because if they !!!! it up, they have to sort it.0 -

Where is this independent? I'm in East Yorkshire and I couldn't get one to do it for that.
The cost of the parts alone would be the thick end of £100.
Spark Plugs £30
Oil and Filter (genuine Ford) £30
Air Filter (genuine Ford) about £10
Pollen Filter (geniune Ford) about £14.
Cambelt OTTOMH is 8 years/100,000 miles.
You can view the service schedule for your car by going to https://www.etis.ford.com , selecting FordService and entering the VIN number of your car. Alternatively you can go here and enter the model number etc.. http://www.etis.ford.com/fordservice/serviceScheduleForm.do0 -
I have the same model of car as you (but mine is an 07).
Ford say every 100,000 miles or 10 years for the cambelt.
However I would be inclined to be more conservative than that. I had mine done at 80,000 miles (4 years). Cambelt, tensioner kit and water pump all changed over at the same time. Should cost approximately £240.
Other than general services this is the only regular job that needs doing regularly really.0 -

North-East England. Wouldn't have thought much more expensive in East Yorkshire TBH. These figures are not genuine Ford -- is there really any need for that on an older, workaday car?
NGK/Champion sparks would be about £15 for the set. Oil+Filter around £20 to a garage when buying in bulk, other filters maybe £6-10. One hour or so's labour and £100+VAT is about right.0 -
Checkout the service details, My parents were going to take their car to KwikFit until i pointed them to the fact that for £99 they were getting an oil and oil filter change and little else.
Everything else was inspection only, SO the bill would have grown quickly.
New air, Pollen and Fuel filters all extra please, Ahh you need the long life oil thats extra please.
Plugs and leads look a bit dodgy, Recommend you change them now.
And the list grows...Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

All I'll say is that after 165,000 miles of being serviced with genuine Ford parts is that on the Mondeo I've just sold the only things that have gone wrong are rear subframe bushes, an alternator and a turbo pipe.0
