Ideas for home-made gifts for x'mas please

Hi all

I have rather a lot of children (7) ranging from 5-18. My husband and I are drawing in the purse strings due to debt, so we want to try and spend as little as possile at christmas. I am very arty etc so making is not a problem and I rather enjoy it. Any ideas as long as it's not knitting please, i can but I hate it; that's my Mum's thing. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Are the gifts for the kids or for other people in the family?
I made a hand print apron for my parents this year. They loved it, so I am making one for ourselves for this year. Got the apron free with a magazine, so that was even more of a bonus.

I came across this site from one of the other threads last night, looks like some really interesting ways for homemade presents ~ I know I would have loved to have received some of the mixes instead of some of the smellies that I got.

  • Here are some of the things I have made for my kids in the past.
    Tutu's
    Batman/Superman Cape
    Harry Potter Cape with broonmstick
    Thunderbird Uniform
Costume dolls (I did, Bride, Flamenco, Sari, Chadoor (sp), Welsh, Scots, Witch, Ballerina.
Dressing up box (contained among others Pirate, Bride, Ballerina, Witch & Robot.
Baby doll with clothes & bedding.
I'm afraid I used to cheat & make extras & sell then to raise the money to buy gifts for the older ones.

If you sign up to pigsback.com, you can earn lots of points which you can turn into lots of vouchers, for free. The vouchers include leisure vouchers that can be spent in loads of places, boots vouchers, arcadia vouchers and lots more. You can then either use them to buy something, or you can buy things as you get enough points for each voucher. There is thread on freebies board where all the answers to the quizzes are posted.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

  • If you save up Boots vouchers for Christmas you can use them on their 3 for 2 offers!
  • Hi everyone
thank you so much for your fab ideas. I have got so many ideas buzzing around I don't know where to start.

One thing I know is, we are going to have a very inexpensive christmas. Although it will be all the more enjoyable seeing the kids open their presents and knowing that i have put so much time and effort into them.

    Thanks again :D :j :j

    Hiya :)

Right, I see that you have some good answers here, so it's time to move you across to our "Celebrations" board where I'm sure you'll be able to have a good browse.

    Good luck :)
