Renault "Keyless" Key
Just went to my local Renault dealer to get a new plastic key for my wifes "keyless" megane. The quote for a new one is £125!! Incredible, considering the power of computing in an xbox for just £50. Unfortunately it won't start the car!!
Anybody got an idea re other options??

I had the same reaction when I found out!
They will reprogram one for about 50 quid, though quite what that entails is anyones guess - AND they don't guarantee success. I've only got one key at the moment, so I will try to follow this if anyone has any good ideas....:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood :dance:0 -
Hi,
You could try posting a query here: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/index.htm
I've found that forum quite helpful in the past.0 -

Inside the key card should be a small proper key.
At least there was I my mates Laguna key card.
Have a read of the websites mentioned, also look for an owners club website.
You may be able to reprogram it if you have a second one, I can get key fobs for my Volvo off EBay and program them myself using the other one.I have a cunning plan!

I think it's just the chip needing reprogramming - when my key broke I was told by renault it would be £180 for a new key and reprogramming the car, so I went to timpsons who did the key for £30, though this is a normal key with immobiliser, not one of the ultra key card type, hope this helps anyhow - give Timpsons a try
That, is an excellent question...0 -
The cost is usually around £60 to re-program the key using the Renault CLip - this is a special computer interface used for all new renaults.
Renault specialists or mobile guys with the CLip computer can usually do the job alot cheaper.
I can recommend specialist breakers in accrington 01254386661 and rentech in portsmouth 023 9266 5848 they are both well known and will do the job cheaper than renault them selves0 -

Some people have bought new keys on Ebay and then got those reprogrammed which worked out cheaper.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0
