Replacement FM Radio Antenna

Hi,

I have an Eton Microlink FR160 radio and I would like to buy a replacement aerial which is much longer to improve the reception.

I realise that there are a number of different fittings when looking online. I am unable to identify the name of the type of fitting that I require to help continue my search for a replacement.

The current aerial is http://shopetoncorp.com/detail/ETO+FR150-TEL-ANT

Can anyone tell me the name of the spade type connection in the picture? This will allow me to search for the correct replacement.

Thanks!

  • Hi,

from that picture it looks as though the brassy bit might screw off, have you tried that?

Great point. On closer inspection - I think that you are right. It is extremely difficult to get sufficient grip with my hands in order to unscrew. I will try later with my trusty Letherman! lol

If I am successful in unscrewing this part what is the name of this threaded connection for the replacement aerial?

    Thank you for your help
  • Hi,

    sorry can't help you.

I thought you could maybe use that bit to connect the new aerial.

Are you having a problem finding a UK supplier?

    No problem, thanks anyway.

Yes I will try and do it this way if I can find a larger aerial with the same threaded connection.

It appears to be a 'standard' connection that I have seen on most radios in the UK so I am hoping that it should not be too much of a challenge. I have looked on the Maplins website but the pictures are not big enough for me to confirm that it is the correct thread.

I am based in the UAE so have to do most of my gadget shopping online :(
  • Hi,

not sure what you're looking for, but doing a bit of googling found this site, might give you an idea.

Dont pull the brass fitting off, if you pull it off, then you will need a new aerial. The one from Maplin should be fine, if you live close enough to a maplin, why not just go in with the radio and ask to see if there aerials fit.

    Hi,

OP says he is based in UAE.

He is looking for a longer aerial than the one pictured to improve reception.

Are most aerials not screw on?
