You could always accept that you're going to need to retrain, in a 'post-school' kind of manner? If a job can be done by anyone who has no specific talent or training in it - why would it be well paid?

Have to say, I'd rather earn less doing a job I'm passionate about than good money in a job I find boring. I also think you stand a better chance of succeeding if you do something you love. As a journalist, it's taken me three years (time spent getting qualified & working as a trainee) to get to the earning level you aspire to and I have had to throw everything into it - moving cities and working ridiculous hours.
There are no short cuts that I can see, especially in the current climate and I imagine it's the same in other professions.
Although I did recently meet an escort who earns £700 an hour and was gifted a flash car by a client, so if that appeals you're sorted!
