Dog Guard for Ford Fiesta

I'm looking into getting a dog guard for my 08 Ford Fiesta. Can anyone recommend one? I've looked at Argos and Halfords which we have locally and some online sites.

Many thanks.

I would recommend getting a proper custom-made guard, they are a lot more secure than the tubular types you will pick up on the highstreet. Barjo is a big name, but there are others - MMG Guards, Guardsman, Hamster Baskets, to name a few.
You may be able to find one secondhand for cheaper if you go to the agilitynet website and look on the "Fleamarket" section.
I have custom guards for my Ford Focus and they're fantastic quality, will last for years, and still fetch a good price secondhand if I change cars. They screw in place so won't get dislodged in an accident - it'd have to be a pretty serious crash anyway, in which case I think the guards would be the least of my worries. You can get pressure-mounted ones if you don't want to screw the brackets into your car though.
I went for a tailgate and an interior guard that mounts over the back seats (flattened) because I have large dogs that needed the extra room, but you can get guards that fit behind the rear seat just to protect the boot. I have a Hatchbag boot liner in there too to keep the car clean when transporting soggy dogs!

Another option to consider is a car crate in the boot area, or a pet sling/hammock or tube on the rear seat, but remember you will need to secure the dog via a car harness with the hammock option.

  • Thanks for your help. I will look them up online and see what there is on offer.

If you HAVE to go for the cheaper option of the pressure fitted bars (less than ideal but sometimes cost/car space/the fact you're not planning to have the car for long etc mean things like the Barjos are out of the running) - get the ones with the extra hooks over your seats cos the other ones just fall down constantly and are rubbish! When Aldi do them - they do a decent one.
