We have our electric on the BGas 2010 price protection plan.
Anybody have any idea what the unit price was when this plan first started? We used to be able to check this online but the House website is naff all useless now and is not showing any of our bills before Nov 2006. Trying to get a straight answer on the phone is driving me to distraction.
The latest bill I have says:
For 586.00 Kwh consumed used over 54 days
Electricity charges: Base rate 1 =133.00 kwh @ 19.057 pence per kwh
Base rate 2= 453.00 kwh at 10.772 pence per kwh

For 250.00 Kwh consumed used over 26 days
Your rate 1 = 64.00Kwh at 16.84 pence per kwh
Base rate 2 = 186.00 kwh at 9.367 pence per kwh

I don't understand where the Base rate 1, Base Rate 2 and "Your rate" fit in.

We have been with British Gas for about 6 yrs and have oil central heating (Aga + log burner as well) I always switch lights off, rarely use tumble drier and use economy wash programmes.
They have messed up our DD payments so many times and not sent bills when requested as the website is constantly under maintenance.
At one point they increased our prices even though we are on the 2010 scheme. I have now totally lost track of where we should be.

I don't think you can be on the BGas 2010 as the prices have not changed over the past year, and it would appear that the prices you quote are a price before and after a price rise.

Rate 1 is the price you pay for the first 225kWh per quarter. Rate 2 is for the rest.

Unfortunately all electricity prices are different across the country. However there is no electricity rate as high(as the prices you quote) on BG PP2010

I assume the prices you have given are before the 5% VAT has been added. If so that would appear you are paying the Standard Rate for BG electricity in the Scottish Power area. This would mean your bill is for the period approx 9 August 2006 to 28 Oct 2006 as the price for BG Standard rate increased on 4 Sept 2006.

Had you been on BG PP2010 you would have been paying 13.1 p per kWh(rate 1) and 7.29p(rate2) before VAT for the whole of that bill. So you are paying 46% more than you would be on BG PP2010

Thanks very much for this information. We will contact BG tomorrow. What you are saying ties in with what is on the bill. We had to contact them on numerous occasions at the end of last year as they kept saying we had cancelled our DD and we hadn't.We have had 2 letters in the last month telling us how wonderful we are for electing to sign up to the PP2010 and not to worry about future bills!!

If you have been billed at the standard rate, you should be in for a nice rebate once you get the pp2010 applied :)

    Success:j

My OH phoned BG and was told we were on 2010PP and the bill was correct.
I got home from work and jumped up and down:mad:
OH phoned back and was told...."we have no record of your account being on Price Protection"

OH phoned Energywatch who gave him the number to speak directly to BG Complaints.
Very nice lady said it was very strange and would investigate and phone back.

    Amazingly she did:D
She said she had sorted it all out and our bill is now £32 and not £280.:T

So thanks for the advice and Sam at BG.
