Me and mum and possibly my brother, my mum is 68, my brother 39 and me 44. We lost our dad in nov 2010 and I havent had a holiday for four years.
I a single home owner and full time worker and would like to rent a cottage in a beautiful spot for a week in june or july between us but we are trying to find somewhere good value but special and a good price.
Petrol is going to cost if its me and mum only so just want some recommendations. Can be in the countryside or in a small village or town.
Thanks for your help.

I am a camper so can't help with cottages etc. but I do think that West Cornwall beats East for beauty. Have a good look at accessibility of beaches as there are a lot of cliffs etc. and you can be near the sea but not easily able to get to it.
Early June will be cheaper and most likely very nice - by early July the post-exam crowd are often heading there.
If you do go to West Cornwall, check out what is on at the Minack Theatre - a place I think everyone should experience at least once!0 -

Hello
Take a look at http://www.cromwellhouse.co.uk/ We have stayed there twice now - More recently though we have been staying in a static caravan at Perran Sands which is fantastic value with a lovely sea view - details are at: http://www.directholidayhomes.co.uk/sprop_ref_2742.html
Hope you find somewhere - we love Cornwall!0 -
Some of the cottage companies I've previously used:

http://www.abovebeachcottages.co.uk/
I usually stay somewhere around Penzance which has good transport links, so once you're there you don't have to use the car, and it's not far to places like The Minack Theatre (I second that recommendation). My favourite village has to be Mousehole. Newlyn is also nice as a working fishing village - both are a mile or two from Penzance.0 -
Hi, have you considered Devon a bit closer?
Coast & Country Cottages seem to be having a good sale on http://tidd.ly/722b9922 CoastCountry
Offer Extended! We are offering sensational savings of up to £300* OFF your Summer holiday in beautiful South Devon if you book before 14th February 2012.
Having said that my favourite location in Cornwall for beauty etc is Cadgwith on the Lizard penisula http://cadgwithcovecottages.co.uk/ or a caravan at Sea acres http://www.parkdeanholidays.co.uk/cornwall-holidays/sea-acres/sea-acres-holiday-park.htm which is a great location right on beach which is an easy walk0 -
Have a look at some of the holiday parks too, like Hoseasons, they offer good deals.0

I too am a camper so cannot comment on cottages, but would highly recommend Bude, on the North Coast, great beaches with seaside shops and great green space too. It has its own canal so great for walks. A bit of everything really.
My husband would move there tomorrow if he could!0 -
Also check out www.holidaylettings.co.uk for various choices of self catering homes as you can narrow down by location, budget etc
North Devon and north Cormnwall coast are pretty much all lovely so you won't go far wrong0
