D-link 524 Xbox and Pc problem

I set up my router and connected my Pc and xbox and all was fine until I shut down pc and xbox and when i start up xbox again i cant sign in it says ip adress failed i have xp and sp2 and blueyonder motorola surfboard modem sb5100, if i wait a while and test xbox connection i get connected again which is a bit odd, when i power down xbox and pc i turn of router by the socket as its on an extension lead with pc so all goes off am i not waiting long enough for it all to settle down when i turn back on?

anyone share some light? and in easy terms as its all a bit new to me

Not sure but I think you may be right. I have to wait about 30 seconds before I can get on-line after I switch on

Yeah I left it longer and all seems ok now, errr does anyone know how to encrypt this router I have been to a control panel and followed a wizard and I was just wondering if that now means this router is encrypted to stop someone piggybacking my signal.

I just logged in here http://192.168.0.1 and used the wizard and encrypted the router.
