Fastest way to get a divorce in UK?

You can word it yourself and complete all the forms yourself. Submit them and then the respondent will be sent what you have written and asked to agree, sign and return - should be within 7 days. My ex only just made it - you might be luckier!
The judge then agrees and sets the initial date for the decree nisi. six weeks and a day afterwards you can request the decree absolute!!
The guy who accepted my forms was really helpful and reviewed them to make sure I had signed and dated in the right places etc!
2 questions:
- Do we need to attend a court session? or is it done mainly by forms on the post?
- If we are jobless at the moment, can we get the court fee levied in any way?
Thanks0 -
Did you need a solicitor to formulate that for you, I mean convincing legal choice of words? or just wrote it in your own words in the application?
How long did it take from A to Z?
Sorry lots of questions, but we are considering adultery as an excuse, so maybe this could be better? considering none of us even tried to be an adulterer!!:D
No we just wrote it in our own words. I was the bad boy, so it took two or three goes before I was happy with what was said. Keep it matter of fact, we looked up examples on the web. The court is not interested in emotional stuff.
I can't remember the timing exactly but probably a couple of months to get the decree nisi and another couple of months for the decree absolute. You have to wait six weeks after the nisi is granted before you can apply for the absolute.
Avoid adultery if you can. It might come back and bite you in the bum if you ever want to get remarried.0 -

Forms in the post - or dropped off at the local courts. No you don't need to attend a court session, in fact I don't recall being told when it was.
I dont' know much about support for costs - but this link will help

No, it can be done by post.
If you are both out of work, you may be able to get some help with costs.

Divorce is such a painful emotional process, just pray it goes quickly at least..:(0 -
It can also be a wonderfully freeing and liberating experience once the wounds heal.

Good luck, tenke
To clarify a couple of points mentioned above: you have to be married for one year before you can apply for a divorce.
And to traleegirl - did you not want to divorce? Your ex could not cite his own adultery as an excuse, so if you weren't willing to file for divorce, or never got round to doing it, he'd have to divorce you on other grounds - unreasonable behaviour being the only real feasible option.

I absolutely do want a divorce, unfortunately I don't qualify for legal aid and the 'soon to be ex' told me straight out that if I applied he would use every penny he had to prevent me getting any settlement.
I just ticked the box on the petition that said 'I agree to the divorce, but not on the grounds'. And at the end of the day does it really matter? he cheated, he lied to both me and his solicitor, I'm just glad to be rid of him!
Actually he only applied for the divorce after I had met somebody else........I think he realised that there was no chance of me taking him back :rotfl:0
