Desperate To Be Debt Free!

  • Hi gmood,

I did read it yeah, fortunately or unfortunately I don't think that will happen to us... Now we have increased our payments to cccs lloyds tab have written to us saying they have accepted our 'reduced' payment of 498 a month... The original agreed payment when we took the loan was 360... I am hoping no one rubs two brain cells together to realise it isn't a reduced payment at all, as they have still frozen the interest! Infact all our creditors have still, and I do worry they will start adding in on and we will be back up the creek without an oar!

Erm... You divide 100 by your original debt total and then times it by the remaining debt total to get it I think!

Hope you and oh are doing well. I have to say my positive attitude is waining, especially after a horrible work coleague made a comment about not agreeing with how I live my life when discussing my money saving ways, coming from someone who had their 200k house and brand new Audi TT bought by the parents this has done nothing but outrage me and put me in a bad mood!!!

  • Thanks Arty, I had figured out the percentage thing by just messing about with the calculator and using your figures to see which way of doing it gave me the percentage you had got. I did it by taking the original debt, minus the current total divide the difference by the original debt and x by 100. I've paid 14% a lot I suppose in what... 6 months? But for some reason it made me feel disappointed. Daft isn't it. I wasn't expecting it to be a huge amount as I've only paid 4k off nearly 28k but somehow I'd kind of hoped for more.
Confusing info from Lloyds or what? But like you say why rock the boat if they have frozen interest but can you afford the "reduced (lol)" payment?
What the heck has it got to do with your colleague how you live your life? Hmm! These type of people annoy me too! At least she could have just kept quiet if she didn't agree with you? Surely she could see you are trying to achieve something and make a difference? She should have kept her opinion to herself instead of bringing you down when you are trying to make positive changes in your life. I'd stay clear If I was you. You don't need negativity from people, you need positive encouragement! You are doing really really well! Keep it up and don't let people get you down!
I'm just waiting for pay day on tues to pay this months payments off my debts and also planning ahead for xmas, trying to get a few bits and bobs each month etc. I haven't had any news lately from any creditors and they say no news is good news so I'm just keeping my head down and plodding on.
I'm trying the PAD you mentioned. I have a pot set up and have thrown a few quid in this week. Don't know what I have planned for it yet but it feels good to be doing something in between pay days & debt payments.
    Cheers for the tip!
Good luck and stay happy and focussed!

  • I know what you mean about the percentage, I keep thinking we should be over 50% by now but it seems to not to be happening very quickly. I do feel pretty crap most of the time, I try not to over think it but I can't help it.

I know what you mean about the woman at work. I wish I could stay away, but unfortunately we share 3 teaching groups and I have to talk to her. She just makes me so angry. She's such a spoilt brat and has no idea what real life is like, or how it is to struggle to make ends meet. I do find it quite telling that she gets paid about 6k more than me a year, but runs out of money before I do, even though she has no mortgage or car payments etc. I could live like a bloody queen on that wage!

Anyway. I should be jealous of what others have, but I just can't help it. I need my life back, I want to feel like myself again not this debt obsessed version,

    Hopefully one day soon!!

  • Managed to save 1075 so far towards paying off the debt early. Calculated that if I can save just under 6000 by next October then should be able to pay to whole DMP off by then end of that month. I just wish I could do this earlier, but my sums show that's just not possible. :( feeling really restless about the debt this week!

  • Good god you are doing REALLY well!! You have saved a huge amount and if you can save enough to pay off by next october that is fantastic! At least you now have a light at then end of the tunnel! I wish I had that! I've just realised that I have no chance of being debt free in 2.5 years as planned as I just cant afford to pay what I had hoped to each month and am falling behind where I planned to be.
Be positive! You are doing amazingly well! Time will fly by and before you know it your debt nightmare will all be over!

  • Thanks, I know you're right, but I just feel so crap. Giving up everything is taking its toll. Have you got the interest frozen on all of your debts?

  • No, I have it frozen on two, then two with Barclaycard i'm paying 2.5% which is about a tenner a month but on Lloyds i'm paying full whack and also on my lloyds overdraft but I'm hoping to pay that off in next few months.
I too hate having to give everything up, not that I really spent on much before but stuff like getting my hair done is a real problem. Its almost down to my waist and my roots are about 6 inch long! Grr! Its a right mess but I haven't had enough spare cash to justify getting it done for months. I'm booked in this week to get it cut and highlighted but I feel so guilty about spending money that could go to my debts on a haircut!
At least this debt plan is making me tight with cash so at least when I get debt free I will probably manage to save up pretty easily! Roll on having some money in the bank!!

    Hello :)

I've read through your thread and I think you are doing Soooooooo well. I TOTALLY get where you are coming from as far as not being able to spend money on stuff that other people don't think twice about (e.g. coffees out etc) but it will be worth it in the end.

I'm still in the pocess of paying off my debt and although sometimes it can be quite addictive I do feel (most of the time) fed up with the whole thing. I have no one to blame but myself as I spent the money originally - but I do find it hard work. I think part of it is that my family don't know so I have no one to celebrate the mini wins/losses along the way.

Good luck with your journey - keep at it and I'll cheer you on from the sidelines :T:T:T:T:T

  • Gmood have you complained in writing to them? I know it's hassle but its worth a try if you can get it reduced/frozen. Have you looked on groupon or wow her for hair cuts? I saw a full colour and cut for 29 on there yesterday (that was in Nottingham but I'm sure there's one near you)

Thank you for the post mumsiemum, it's really nice to know that I'm not alone in feeling like this. Had a pretty crap week again, works been tough and the kids are getting restless for half term. I've managed to make £110 on eBay in 3 weeks and hoping to make the same this week. Have saved another 100 quid towards the debt too. It's just never enough!
