Badly worded email, imho... Were I him I'd have sent the email as is with the alteration that "if you wish, you can unsubscribe" rather than advising people should unsub - seems to be presuming no one wants to hear if they're not getting a freebie... and some may?On the up
Our wedding day! 13/06/150 -
Small business owner wants to increase sales and get people to his/her website so try and increase sales.
Adds an offer to get people to sign up to the newsletter and then realises that 1000's of people want something free.
The PC crashes, cannot realistically complete the 1000's of requests.
Has to withdraw the offer.
Sends a (IMO) poor email out suggesting that people SHOULD unsubscribe!
OR he could of...
He/She just realises his idea was too popular and cannot complete it, so emails everyone thanking them for the overwhelming response for the offer, and offers a discount voucher or half price 2nd order or something to all those that signed up??
Just a thought....?0 -
They have free postage anyway, I just bought some fudge0

Edited to now say... half price 2nd order!! :rotfl:0 -
I actually disagree a bit with the others. I'm not really bothered but this is a bit of false advertising. To say you get free fudge if you sign up and then just say well too many people signed up tough luck no one is getting anything I think is pretty poor. Also it doesn't really say much for the company. What if you had ordered some fudge for your loved one on Valentines Day and he had e-mailed and said "Too many people have ordered for Valentines Day so you will have to cancel your order". I will carry on with my life somehow without the free fudge but I wouldn't be ordering from them.0

It is a disappointment but his email (which I agree was a bit harsh in wording) did seem like he was genuinely overwhelmed and not like he was trying a bait-and-switch.
These small sites really need to say "first XXX customers to sign up can get free XXX" or make it a comp or something. And yes I agree he should have offered some sort of promo in his apology email.0 -
I don't suppose he thought for one minute that it would be posted on sites like this & HDUK.
A little disappointing for us that we won't get the freebies. It's only a bit of fudge though.
Catastrophic to a small business if they tried to send out the amount of freebies requested.
I'm visiting the area soon & Burley's a place I want to go to so I shall go in & buy some fudge.0 -
