Hi all,
As I mentioned in an earlier thread I have been turned down for a grant as our income is too high ( we're hardly living the high life!!!). Looking in the papers there are loads of adverts for showers for disabled or elderly. There's never a price though! Even on the websites there's no price, you have to ring , and then I guess you get a visit from a hard sell salesman. Has anyone had a shower installed, got any idea of price etc? I've also been looking at DIY places to see if you can get similar but not having much luck. Like I said before- it would all be paid for if I gave up work, but while I can still drag myself there I'm not doing it-oops, starting to rant!!
Thanks for reading

We had a wet room done for my mum, including tiles, shower , underfloor heating, toilet and bath for 3k. The ads in the paper I think will be well overpriced as like you I was suspicious about the lack of pricing. We were about to go down that road ourselves but luckily I googled and found these people who gave me some excellent independent advice

Initially we wanted one of those walk in baths but were told that they take an age to drain so you will be sitting in cold bathwater and can leak. A simple low level shower and shower chair should hopefully do the trick.
Best of luck, I know it can be stressful trying to find the right option!0 -
My mum had a stroke early last year we chose to replace the bath with a walk in shower package a few months ago. Its the best thing we did as she finds it so much easier to move around and i would also advice you think about shower seats, my mum loves the fact she can sit and shower. Hope this helps x0

Any builder could do the work, as long as they are good builders.
A near neighbour got a shower room adaption done a year or two ago, by one of the specialist bathroom companies and was shocked at the price. He went ahead with it, but even now, he thinks he would have been better getting a couple of quotes form 'normal companies' or self employed builders.0 -
Have done at least 50 in the last 10 years, if your bathroom is a standard size/shape bathroom £3k+vat is average, speak to your local council grant department they will have a list of contractors who do these conversions,0
