Extending from a BT double socket faceplate to a Single socket faceplate?

Hi all!
My flat has 1 BT socket on the wall! It is a double socket faceplate! I want to extend the cable, using the wire splicers that Virgin media use to connect there telephone lines, to behind my TV where i have installed a faceplate for Sky, Terrestrial TV and telephone!
How ever when i took the BT socket of the wall i noticed that only the Orange & Orange/white cable is connected to the socket on the right (as you look at it as if it's on the wall) to pins 2 & 5. The Blues are loose! is there a reason for this? I didnt have to force the faceplate off the wall so i dont think i disconnected them?
I was wondering if i'd still be able to extend the cable to behind my tv and just connect the blues to pins 2&5 and the orange to pin 3?
Thanks

Only a single pair is used, usually orange/white & white/orange (on 2 & 5). Nothing amiss there at all. Pin 3 is only used on older systems to provide the ring circuit connect, not used with modern phones - they dont need it, don't connect it. BT use multipair cables to provide mutliple connections where necessary but each one only uses 2 wires.
Use the correct cable and connect 2&5 at the master socket extension header (behind the pull-out section) with 2&5 at the extension.0 -
Thanks for that!
so just to clarify..... i need to extend and connect only the orange pair to my new faceplate?
when you say "use the correct cable" being a sky engineer i have teleplhone cable, but is this good enough to use?
i forgot to mention in my first post that, after i have extended it i wont be having the old double socket on the wall so will just splicing the cables together be ok?0 -
The cable should be ok. Only worry is that BT are responsible for the line into their first box/ socket. If you remove it and just extend to a new box (is it a BT box?) you may upset 'em (if they find out or there's a problem in the future)
Can you not retain the existing and just extend? I might be totally wrong on this but thought I'd mention it.0 -

Don't use burglar alarm cable. It is not right for voice although it does work, but it is pants for broadband.
In your position, I would either leave the double in place or get a new single rather than splice - you just need a push down tool to connect. Particularly if this is the only socket in the house or you don't know the entry point, it is probbaly best not to lose the ends of the cables.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
