Renault Megane CC knocking sound when turning left
Hi,
Just this morning my renault megane CC (54) has started making a knocking sound when turning left.
The sound is coming from the right front wheel. However it is only when turning left.
The sound is like someone has a steel pipe and it banging it on the wheel not mega lid but loud enough for me to think oh my god whats that !!!.
It does it at low speed i.e turning up my drive and also if I am turning a corner.
I have jacked the car up and check that everything looks ok. I can not see any perish on the rubber sleeves etc and the wheel turns smoothly without any noise and it is not loose.
Any ideas and if so any clues on the cost to get fixed at a garage. NOT DIY LOL

It will be the universal joint.....they can fail even thought the rubber sleeve is fine.
Not a diy job I'm afraid.
Dont have any idea of the cost on a Megane.

Possible cv joint (drive shaft)
Best take it to a garage for diagnosis. You could have countless people telling you it is this & that.Google gives you answers use it.........0 -
CV joint and if its the same gearbox as on a clio it will be safer when replacing the joint to totally remove the driveshaft as ive known the gearbox end of the driveshaft to loose its roller bearing and 30 plus needle rollers into the gearbox if the driveshaft angle is excessive when trying to remove the old joint thats if its the shorter drive shaft on the passenger side if its the longer one on the drivers side no need to remove the shaft complete.0

Its just possible its not a fault but a result of the action of the rubber on cold ground - does it also happen on full lock the other way ? Read about Ackerman on wikipedia to know more0

Thanks.
Had a walk down to my local garage and was surprised they were open on a sunday as just a local MOT centre that does repairs as well.
They are going to have a look tomorrow for me. Fingers crossed it's not too much to get it fixed as potless at moment.
With regards to the action of rubber on cold ground I suspect it is not as I have had the car 6 years now and it only just started this morning. (plus not a snow flake or frost seen here all year yet!!!)
