The biggest problem is if the meter is in debt collecting mode, this means that it WILL be set to take, say, £5 per week (amount varies) in this case even if no power is being used for any reason it will still be collecting this amount.
all seems fine until the tenant that was in debt, leaves without telling the supplier, the new tenant then inherits the debt when they move in.
We see this a lot in housing association stock, it also seems that landlords are unaware of this issue.

Load of rubish as long as the new occupier informs the supplier and takes a read and doesnt use the previous occs key / card it wont
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Correct, but there are a lot round here don't do any of that, just move in and reuse card. Then they worry why it costs so much.

If a tenant leaves debt on a prepay meter, call the supplier and inform them of this. they need to send the meter operator out to perform a Decom-Recom.

This needs to be attend to within 4 hours by the meter operator if done on first day of tenancy.

This only applies to gas, for elec they send you your own key which resets the meter.
