Vacuum Cleaner recommendations

Hi all
I need a new vacuum cleaner as mine is a cheapo one from Tesco which doesn't pick up much now. (it was given to me few yrs ago).
I had this one emailed to me via Groupon today. I don't have pets myself, so wondered if it was worth buying or can anyone recommend a good one about the same price?
Ideally bagless, don't mind upright or other type. TO be used on laminate lino and carpet.
Cheers

I've got a Henry, best hoover I've ever had. Great long lead, easy to do stairs and odd corners and no machine to push around but I am a bit biased, I would never have an upright now. It does all surfaces, in fact I have just hoovered my coat with it to get off all the bits of fluff that come off my scarf. I also clean the dog with it, god knows why she should want to moult at this time of year!
Love it - but so much is down to personal taste and what you're most used to. The cleaners at work like Miele but I think they're pretty pricey. The best way to gauge is probably the highest suction power for the least money!!0 -
Miele or Sebo both have pretty good reputations but not cheap but have decent warranty. Henry's are cheapish but industrial ones are pretty indestructible - not sure that is the same on they sell in Homebase etc though?0

I wouldn't know which to recommend, but I would point out that the one from Groupon is available for one penny more from Asda!

~Another vote for Henry here, good old workhorse, had mine for years.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Henrys are ok for flat pile carpet or laminate floors. If you have a decent pile carpet that you want to keep in good condition you need an upright with the brushes to lift the pile, a henry and other similar hoovers will just flatten the pile pushing dirt into the pile rather than lifting it out, effectively only cleaning the very top of the pile.
We have a shed load of Sebos and yes they are more expensive than most other brands but they are reliable and excellent. Some of our sebos are pushing 8-10 years old and are used for heavy duty cleaning daily.
Still have a few henrys for cleaning your standard hard wearing office type carpets where pile isn't an issue and for cleaning out the vans etc.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

You can get a "pet" head for a Henry which has brushes.Lightbulb Moment 17/09/20060 -

Its still useless at beating the pile. IIRC they are just a brush inside they head, its not a powered brush.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

I agree. I have a Henry for work (I'm a decorator) and an Electrolux at home but often end up bringing the Henry in from the van to clean at home as it's better. Avoid Dysons at all costs!0
