Is this a glitch ?

I was looking for a replacement ipod for my boy and came across one on a £50 BIN, I clicked to buy, and clicked to commit to the sale. the next screen said "tem no longer for sale, item has been purchased by another buyer" or words to that effect.
So i carried on browsing and found another slightly more expensive one which i bought and paid for instantly.

About an hour later i looked at my list of purchased items and there was the first ipod awaiting payment, obviously i dont want 2 so i messaged the seller and explained the situation, but all i got was basically "tuff, you won you pay"

Any advice on how to handle this ?

    Hi

I think if no money has changed hands then there is no contract in force.

The seller will lose out as they will have to pay the seller charges for the item if they continue to be funny about the situation.

Just tell them that you won't be paying as it was a glitch with the system and you have bought elsewhere.

Then ignore further messages unless it is from ebay for them to get their seller fees back.

    Wrong.

Unfortunatley there have been cases in the past where people have found ebay bids/BINs to be legally binding, look at the top case on the following website

the customer had won the item and paid for the item but the seller refunded and didnt want to sell for that price so it is a very different situation as money had been exchanged.

I did say, I think though and would contact ebay for clarification.

    Contact Ebay.

    Contact the seller.

Tell them what happened and if there is then a problem come back on here.

You won't be taken to court or made to pay for two items if you only want one. There seems to be a growing trend to give the worst case scenario on here, the worst that can happen is you receive a non payment strike from the seller you don't pay, Ebay should be able to sort that for you, if it gets that far.

I assume you don't use eBay at all.

OP is quite right to try and work this out with the seller, if seller gives OP an NPB strike they would only need one more before they're effectively ban themselves from buying from eBay. Trying to work this out is the best way forward

If this is a glitch it is a strange one and there is nothing on the community boards at all

Maybe you clicked the commit to sale button twice - hence the message - as it was you who had already bought it.

I always pay for what i win, and if i no-longer need it - i just re-sell it.
