Central Heating stopped working, but Hot Water working

My boiler doesn't fire up wire I turn on central heating from the Control Panel, but when I turn on Hot water, the boiler fires up.

Why?

It has been working non stop this weather and suddenly it stopped working around 3pm today

  • Hi.

Reading between the lines I would say the motorised valve/s have failed .

Lock it/them open on 'manual' and you will get c/h as long as you have h/w demand.

This opinion might change if you post details of the boiler and it's external controls.

    GSR.

My boiler is an old boiler by "ideal". It has a honeywell valve. How do I lock it and open manual?

The valve model is Honeywell VR4601A gas valve. How can I turn it to manual?
  • Hi.

    Interesting.

As you say it's a gas valve.

What you need is a motorised/zone/diverter valve.

The 'manual open' slot is clearly shown just below the cable entry.

What's the difference between the 22cm and 28cm?

with the best will in the world i think you really need to phone a plumber/heating engineer.

if you are mistaking the gas valve inside the boiler & the mid postion valve which is normally in the airing cupboard next to the cylinder, plus you don't know the difference between 22MM & 28MM (these are just pipe sizes btw), then i really think you need someone who knows what they are doing, i hope you get it sorted.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

    Hi Keith,

You're a life saver. I'm novice in this area. I never intend to change the valve myself, but to give me a clue of what was going on.

I've now located the valve and have changed it to Manual and the house is getting warm.

    Thanks for all your help.
