If you have not already posted this question in the In Your House sub-forum, that would be better. This sub-forum is more about gas and electricity accounts.0

Thanks,
I don't have any DIY experience on Boilers or Electrics. I call British Gas and AA, but I booked to Tuesday. I'm scared of calling a Cowboy Engineer.
I don't know what to do0 -
It would be of help if you gave the make and model of your boiler...
Room 'stat failing to operate? Can you hear it click as you turn it up and down? If not then you just need a replacement 'stat, a simple DIY job.
The fact that it fires up OK on hot water demand points to this.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I've found out it's the motorised valve near the cylinder that failed. I changed it from AUTO to MANUAL and the central heating is working now, but now I have to turn on both hot water and central heating for CH to work0

Try waggling the lever a bit to see if you can free it off to work on auto-they often stick, usually at the start of the heating season. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Symptomatic of the valve synchron motor failing. Quite a common fault and an "easy" job for an experienced electrical DIYer. Usually doesn't require a drain-down. However don't touch if you are not electrically experienced.0 -
A heating specialist is visiting my house tomorrow at 10am. He said on the phone that there is nothing wrong with the Valve that is a job of £50 to £60 to fix it.

A new motor is around £10 to £15 and it's a simple swap with no need to drain down the system. If that is the problem.0
