We went 8 days without water last winter :(
  • I heard a gurgling rumble in the loft yesterday and held my breath expecting the worst - ie water coming into the house. But at the same time the kitchen taps started working and all was well. I don't fully understand but we think there was a frozen mains pipe as it enters the kitchen. This may not have been laid deep enough when the previous occupants built the conservatory extension 12 years ago. Since it froze and defrosted quickly it must be close to the surface. Funny it didn't happen in last year's freeze just after we moved here. Not sure what precautionary steps to take to stop it happening again except keeping an eye on the weather forecast and leaving a tap running/dripping fast overnight.

2 days now my hot water pipe wont bring any water at all on kitchen it does come after midday though;)

in a rush last year i refurbished kitchen and no insulation for pipes at all...and my kitchen doesnt have no radiator or any think..very cold

just bought a tall radiator so hopefully when i install this monday there wont be no more problems
ps. as above if you stopcock is on the road, then from there to your house is your responibility .

I think once you insulate those pipes the water will run all day. They are frozen in the morning and by lunchtime have defrosted=water comes on. You probably know that anyway. Good luck.

Thanks mate.. yestreday though i became a reptile and checked under the kitchen units.. actually i have done the job properly.. have insulated the new pipes which bring cold water straight from the mains
but the hotwater i now remember i never found out where it traveled/came from...could only see that it came out just in the right place for the sink, so that must either be buried under floor or on the wall, so no much i can do with it
i tried to leave the hot water on, as it brings a little bit , but its that little , that wont even start the boiler up
never mind, just recently we bought a dishwasher and the bosch likes it cold ;)
