Wait for new plates when buying a car?

Hi folks

The long misery of finance has finished on my car so at last I can change it for a new (to me) one!!

I am looking at a 2010 Astra SE 1.7 (125ps) CDTI which seem to retail from about £10,500 at vauxhall main dealers.

I am going to sell my car now and then have the choice of either buying a cheap runaround to part-ex after the 12 plates in April, or simply buy one now!

The question is, if the car is selling for 10.5k now at just under 2 years old, how much is this figure likely to drop when the new plates come out.

The 12 plates are out 1st March not April.

It won't drop by much when the new plates come out as it's not the lastest plate at the moment.

Ah, thats interesting.. I didn't realise the date was 1st March.

You are saying it won't drop as much as the 11 plate, which makes perfect sense. Have you an idea of the kind of value it could represent though? If I am going to save £1000 I would be very happy!

Yes the 61 and 11 plates will drop the most.

It won't drop by £1,000 in the next 3 weeks, but may drop by a couple of hundred. Although haggle with the dealer and try to get more knocked off. Offer £9,500, and then see what they can do. Sometimes buying at the end of the month is best as they have sales targets to meet, and if they haven't meet their target this month the dealer may be more willing to give a discount to get a sale.

Chuff. I just bought a 2010 Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 140 Zetec from a dealers for £8900.

I have had a change of mind and decided to go for a Focus 1.6CDTI as the MPG seems significantly better on this. I like the look of the Titanium spec and have found some near new ones with very low mileage (5 months old) for 12,999 which is a LOT of money but a lot cheaper than they would have been a few months ago!
Being so new, is this likely to drop by much when the new plates come out?

It seems like a LOT of money to me. I would be looking to spend half of that. It's a small car and it will be worth £2k in a few short years, you are throwing money down the drain if you ask me.
