Co-Operative Bank - Cashminder Account

Hi there,

I have an appointment next week with the Co-Operative bank to open a current account with them. I am considering choosing the Cashminder Basic account as I am not keen on having an overdraft.

Looking back through these forums (which have been very useful :D) I have noticed that quite a few people had problems when the cards issued changed from Visa Electron to Visa Debit branding, but websites/Chip and Pin machines still recognised them as Electron cards. Before I take the plunge and apply, could anyone let me know if they still experience problems with this card?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi I have a cashminder account with coop. Card is visa debit but on some online websites it shows as an electron, so I've had to chose that option but saying that I havent had much trouble. card was not accepted online with debenhams and M&S and at pay at pump petrol with Asda but okay at tesco petrol stations. It's just trial and error really.

I've had the account for 2 years and havent had a single issue with the card, just make sure if you have a backup card from another account/credit card just in vase (but this would apply anyway not just if you bank with co-op) they're a good bank.

Also, if you apply for a full current account there is no guarantee which card they will offer you. You could still be sent a card starting 450875 (the old electron number) rather than the card starting 4988 (the old cheque guarantee card), although your card could be upgraded at a later date with the current account once they see your account conduct, which they wont do with a cashminder account.
