I would check your sped first http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/
And then try this, Start, run then type sfc /scannow then hit enter you maybe asked for the XP disc.
Also reset IE
IE6:
1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
2. Click the Programs tab.
3. Click the Reset Web Settings button. (untick reset homepage)
I would also delete my cookies, temp internet files & History from the General Tab
IE7:
1. Close any Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer windows that are currently open.
2. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Internet Explorer.
3. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.
5. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.
6. When Internet Explorer finishes restoring the settings, click Close, and then click OK.
7. Close Internet Explorer.
Your changes will take effect the next time you open Internet Explorer.0 -
I've re-set IE and also done a system restore. The main problem seems to be I don't have a temporary internet file. I can't set the size of the file it just stays at 0 and it dosn't have a location, no history is recorded.0

If you're using IE7, then do the Tool\Internet Options, clear your cache, cookies, history et al. Shutdown IE.
Then goto windows explorer, find the Temporary Internet Files folder, right click and choose properties. Then uncheck the 'read only' attribute.
You may need to enable all files and folders view, in order to see the Temporary Internet FIles folder as it maybe hidden otherwise:
To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:
Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
Double-click on the My Computer icon.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
After the new window appears select the View tab.
Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
Still having problems. I'm using another user account to write this because on my own it's so slow and i don't stay logged on longer enough.
I've tried to follow the advice given so far but was unable to uncheck the 'read only' attribute on my temporary internet files. When i right click on my temporary internet files it indicates that there are 17000 files but it seems empty.
As things stand now every page takes an age to load. I'm unable to download anything it just stays at 0% than error box pops up and asks me check my internet connection, which i know is ok.
Thank you in advance for any help.0 -
Whenever I see something like this I immediately think Spyware / Trojans or a virus. Even if they aren't actively attacking IE they could be affecting it.
Follow the advice in the sticky at the top of the page
Also try downloading Firefox and see if that works better as an internet browser0 -
Downloaded Firefox (had to use another user account) and seems to be working fine. Internet Explorer still a problem.0
