  • I'd agree. But they had SOME value - without him studying for them and entering the exams (ie with only one grade C A level) I don't think they'd have even considered him in the first place - he'd never have gotr an interview, and never been able to show them the rest of what he had to offer. However, who's to know.

At the end of the day everything worked out fine for your son but here is the state of play currently at my uni. If the predicted grades add up to less than the stated entry points requirement, even by 1 point (yes you can do weird things that give you a trivial number of points!), your application will immediately be "binned". It won't matter what is in the reference or the personal statement (more of that later), the admissions bods will move on to the next form.

Personal statements - we are one of the many universities that don't bother with them. Near enough every applicant plays sport at a high level, plays a musical instrument to at least grade 7 and spends every free hour doing charity work.

Noooo after all that time getting points they don't even add up to prizes

Ah we may be ok after all as my son took Further maths as an extra A level to avoid having to do any sport, can't play any musical instrument at all and spends all his free time playing SkyRim on the PS3.

Which Uni is your Uni just in case he has applied and I have to take it all back.
Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.

Virtuous action, now, at this very moment.

Willing acceptance - now, at this very moment - of what you can’t change
