Powerflush or Adding Cleaner/inhibitor

Hi Experts,

Sorry if it's repeated question. I moved to a semi-detached house last year and no history of boiler maintenance (combi boiler - 7 Years old - good condition) and not sure when serviced or added inhibitor.

Just wondering whether I need to do Powerflush or just add inhibitor for time being so I can powerflush when I replace the boiler after few years or sample water test. I can't see any cold spot. I had a quote for Powerflush (£250 - 7 Radiators) in Middlesex area. With no history of maintenance and boiler no major issue, is it good idea to Powerflush or go with cleaner/inhibitor?

Thanks, Moor

  • as a rough guide bleed/drain some water out of the heating system if it's black/dirty then you have no inhibitor or not enough, if it is like this really no point in putting inhibitor in as it really won't do much without cleaning the system first (you can buy a cheap test kit to check the amount of inhibitor in the system), powerfushing is really only needed if you have cold spots or heating cirulation problems or are having a new boiler fitted, as your boiler seems to be happy & none of the other things apply to you, then my advice would be to save the £250 (which btw is a good price for a powerflush if done properly) towards the new boiler in a few years.
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
