Somerfield cannot get things right...

Options
Somerfield constantly cannot get either the wording or the basis of their offers to tie up from the shelves to the checkout.

A lot of the time their offers do not 'work' at the checkout (whether relying on the silly Saver Card or not) or they word them so dumbly on the shelves it is nigh on impossible to pick up the right items.

Is it too cynical to suggest they actually employ some lemon to make all this as confusing as possible? I mean, it's not like they ever lose is it? When they overcharge you you only ever get back the overcharge. Not like Tesco where you get the goods for free - which is a nice incentive all round to get things right.

Aaaaargh! And relax...

Phil ;-)

I have to agree with you on this one Phil, although I did think it might just have been my local store that had issues.

I no longer use my local Somerfield for the bulk of my shopping because of this very reason. It was becoming a nuisance that after every shop, you had to work your way through your receipt to check for the errors that you just knew were going to be there.

It was getting to the stage that every shopping trip would have at least one overcharge error.

Every supermarket will at one point make some sort of pricing error, none of them are perfect, but Somerfield seem to have a higher than average percentage of wrong price issues.

I did think about involving some sort of officialdom such as Trading Standards at one point, as I genuinely felt there were too many errors for it to all be put down to computer glitches or admin probs.

In the end I decided I would just take my business elsewhere. I now only use Somerfield for when I run out of milk or the like.

Yup, that's absolutely spot on aliasojo. I would honestly say on more than half of my visits they overcharge for something - and I don't shop there for much either, normally just bits and pieces.

As you say, it is frustrating to have to fine-tooth comb your receipt every visit...

The staff in-store always seem helpful enough, although I've communicated very politely with their HQ by e-mail before and they just don't seem to care at all.
