redundancy struggle

Hi everyone
I was made redundant last august after being laid off for a few months ,and have never received my redundancy payment ...
i had spoken to the director of the company a couple of months back ,and he had said that they were struggling etc etc and i should call him in a months time
after that all my calls/messages went unanswered so reluctantly i passed it on to my union and at the same time sent a message to the director stating what i had done and that he had left me little choice
i then received a phone call from them ... stating that i had been overpaid and actually i owed them money !
when my final pay had been paid in august i received a letter stating that i was owed £1700 redundancy which had initially been £2000 minus £300 pound i was overpaid and that i would receive the money soon
and now they are saying i owe them £100 pound ! and to make matters worse i cannot find the letter they sent me
i am worried that they will just worm their way out of paying me anything by throwing figures at me from allmost a year ago of which i have very little memory
am i in trouble by not having this letter stating what they owed me ?
thankyou
