Help!

I've got myself in a massive problem and kicking myself for it. I got myself a credit card to buy a car (for my b/f at the time), I then found him using the card without my permission, he took it from my wallet and this went on for months and he maxed the card out, the limit is £3,000 and he's refusing to pay it. I can't afford to as I'm on DLA, unemployed and currently of no fixed abode. but Santander are still making me pay with extra interest charges every month! If my credit rating is zero is there anyway I can make santander see sense?? they're just not co-operative at all, or is it possible to move it to a zero credit card?

Also, my ex didn't register me on the council tax. I pestered him to do it but he refused to, if I reported him would I get into trouble?

Thanks

Michelle

This sounds like a job for the police.

No, but he would if he filled in and signed the form without including your details.
Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??
    :coffee:
  • First of all if you report him to the council it won't get a penny back on your card will it?

If you did not query the transactions when they happened you will have to live with them now - (presumed acceptance).

I know this is not what you want to hear but Santander are doing nothing wrong.
You need to speak to one of the debt charities who will arrange/help you with a repayment plan.
  • i had a similar situation some years ago, i immediately reported it to the police and the credit card company cancelled the out standing expenditure. but you say this went on for months, surely by the first statement you should have seen it was being used. i think the police and bank would find it strange you did not report this.

Which I think was what I said - presumed acceptance.

OP has nowhere to go with this as I presume that if they were still together there would be no dispute here.
  • This is what statements are for, sorry OP but if this has gone on for months it would be classed as your fault for not checking your statements / account activity
  • Thanks for the reply to the credit card.

But I haven't had a reply re the council tax. My ex did not register me at the flat for the whole time I was living there, he refused to register me there, said he couldn't afford to pay it (I couldn't as I had no rights to benefits). My question is if I report him will I get into trouble?

I Look forward to hearing from you.

Do it if you want to - but you came to ask about help with your debts. Whatever you choose to do will not help you in this respect at all as I have previously stated.

If you report him, he may well be asked to attend an interview and be required to pay backpay for the last X years (forget what it is now). He might also be fined for claiming single persons council tax (if that is what he has done).

You will not get in trouble with the council for the report, but you might from your ex, and you may be required to attend an interview to provide evidence of you living there.

In the end it's up to you. It's not going to help your debt situation at all.
