Redhill Appliances

AVOID THIS BUNCH OF NO HOPERS,AT ALL COSTS.

They don't even warrant a thread to be honest, but the story about them, goes as follows:

My Mum's old washer broke down about 2 weeks ago,and for a replacement, she wanted a Bosch for a change,so she trawled the net for a WAE24162,and found that the above company, would not only sell her the washer,at the cheapest price she had seen, they would also deliver it,to her house in Gateshead, for £1.Which considering they are in Redhill,Surrey, would turn out to be a cracking deal.

The total price therefore, came to £229,which was the cheapest she could get it anywhere.Sorted.

A delivery date of yesterday,Thursday 15th February, was agreed, and they would phone her with an eta,on the day,so everything was cooking along nicely.

So yesterday comes, and she was told it would be between 11am and 2pm,so she made arrangements to be in,and at 1.50pm she gets the following phone call from someone connected with the company:

RA:Mrs H?
Mum:Yes.
RA:It's Redhill Appliances here. You are due to take delivery of your washer today, but unfortunately the vehicle bringing the washer from LEEDS,has broke down, and we can't deliver it today, and the next time we are in your area,is next Thursday.
Mum:You are having a laugh aren't you?
RA:No sorry.

So she rings the shop up,and gets some snotty little toerag on the phone, who basically told her to like it or lump it.So much for customer service!!!!!

So she has asked for a refund to her card, and is keeping an eye on her account,to see if it goes in.If it doesn't,I can see a small claims action coming off here.

She has bought it elsewhere, and unforunately they can't deliver it until next Thursday, but after her experience from Redhill Appliances, she was loathe to give them her business.

In these days of customer service, you would think that RA,would have swallowed any extra cost, and put it on an overnight carrier, but oh no,they weren't going to do that.

So my advice to you is,if your in the market for a new electrical appliance, then spend your hard earned elsewhere, and don't give these your business.

Ken.

  • Just be aware that delivery times are not a condition of the contract unless the customer makes it so, and therefore you cannot normally cancel on this basis, but of course in this case as it was ordered online with no face to face contact you can still cancel under the Distance Selling Regulations.

They did seem to have a reasonable excuse for the delay, to be fair to them.

As someone who has been in transport since the age of 11, (I'm now 42.) giving someone a story of a broken down vehicle, without an alternative,is not good customer service.

In my past capacity as a manager,I have always made sure the customer gets their goods, even if it costs extra money to get there.THAT is good customer service.

I hardly think ringing someone 10 minutes before the delivery deadline, set by them,is a reasonable excuse.
