Roadcom RC400C sat nav - route 66 map update issues

I have a Roadcom RC400C sat nav which has the original 2008 UK and Ireland maps on it. I went onto the Route 66 store and downloaded the 2012 version to my PC but can't get it onto the device because:

• when i go to the maps through the device and click download, it tells me there is a connection error
• when I try to download it from the PC it says there isn't enough space as it is basically trying to overwrite the 2008 version

There is a memory card slot in the device which I have formatted and also tried to get the 2012 version on that way.

I just wondered if anyone else has had any experience of trying to get the most recent maps onto their sat nav and any tips?
