Trying to go wireless but router can't/won't connect

At least I think that's the problem.
We're on Talktalk, and I've got a Talktalk wireless router that I'm trying to install.
Plugged it in/wired it up as per instructions, ran the setup disc and entered the username/password as per instructions.
The router and USB adaptor are talking to each other, and it is connecting to the internet, but connecting to Talktalk themselves appears to be the problem - apparently they're not recognising us, or something.
All the software says is to check the cables are plugged in properly (they are) and that the username/password is correct (it is)
Help?

Have you tried connecting the PC directly to the router and seeing of you can connect to the I/N that way0

Not yet - that will be my next step as I would prefer the main PC to be hardwired anyway, but it's a bit of a job getting behind the hard drive/desk to fiddle around back there, so was putting it off until the morning.
From the various messages etc on screen, I don't think that bit is the problem though.
Edit - second thoughts, don't think that will work anyway - I need the USB adaptor to make the PC wireless ready - no internal card.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
ok, silly question, have you been connected to talk talk for a while or is it a new connection?
There's also usually a bit of tweaking to do it the broadband settings that a usb modem doesn't do, have you googled talktalk router settings?0 -

The connection is about 6 months old, so I know the password etc works as it should.
I will google the settings just in case, but they are preset onto the router by talktalk, and match the ones listed in their own guide online.
I couldn't get any emails yesterday though anyway - wonder if there was a Talktalk problem that might have affected it. Not going to have the chance to retry until later today, but I will check back here first in case anyone has any thoughts.
