How can I get my new laptop to reconize my HP printer?

Please can someone help me find the solution to why my printer doesn't work. I have a new Toshiba laptop and my printer is a HP Deskjet F2480 THANKYOU in advance. I am not to clever with tec stuff as you will possibly realise. So please give me information in simply terms that a thicko can understand. I will be so pleased to get it working. THANKS!

Is the printer plugged directly into the laptop?

Go to Device Manager (you can do this by pressing Start > Type "Device Manager") or go to My Computer, System Properties, Device Manager.

can you see the printer there with a yellow "?"

You say you have a new Toshiba so I would have thought it is on Windows 7 and it will auto recognise the printer, but maybe not so download the drivers here.

thanks so much I will try that and thank you when i have it working
  • i would add that if it is USB-plugged in and SWITCHED ON then Windows 7 will find the drivers no problem

It should do. That is what I stated, so unless the OP has done something wrong, then clearly something is not right.
