TPS Parking solutions

Hello all

I really need some advice.

I have received a letter from TPS saying I was parked in XX carpark at XX time etc etc.

They sent photographic evidence. I am the registered owner of said vehicle not necessarily the driver.

They have since sent 1 other letter and now a letter has come from a debt recovery agency asking for more money.

I am not willing to pay.

I need your advice as to what to do - I dont want letters from debt collection agencies on my doorstep.

Thanks

Loublou1

What you do is read all the other threads on here that deal with private parking tickets, then you will realise that you don't have to pay. As for debt collectors, don't forget that they are just private citizens with no more power than you or me to demand money off people. Just treat their letters as you would any other junk mail.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?
  • thanks - its just not nice seeing those sort of letters from these rogues

dont let it bother you,, yes, they are rogues its important you remember that and the fact they have zero powers, nothing will/can happen to you, relax, feet up and enjoy week end.
  • Yes, you can just chuckle at the thought of them reducing their profits by sending out mail to someone who doesn't owe them anything/isn't going to pay them anything. Make a cup of tea and relax in front of telly, as bondy would say.

    Hey Loublou1,

I can completely sympathise - I find their letters pretty intimidating and I'm still only on my 3rd from TPS, not reached the 'debt collectors' yet.

Try to relax and not worry too much - after reading around here and reading the letters thoroughly you'll realise they just employ a whole heap of scare tactics.

    Something that just occured to me;

They keep increasing the charges, and I guess if it went to county court they could pretty much get however much they wanted out of you - this begs the question, why do they offer so many threats of increased 'fines' or discounted payment options if they can maximise their profits by not hurrying you to pay?

I guess the answer to that is because they do not have a cat in hells chance of getting an informed person to cough up.

You'll have seen from day 1 (the parking ticket itself) there are incentives for you to cough up (discounted rate within 14 days etc.).

Notice they don't say 'the fee will increase after 14 days', they say you get it discounted within 14 days.

It's basically a whole lot of spin.

The thing that really gets my goat is the 'if you do not pay this it will affect your credit rating'.

From what I understand, in order for your credit rating to be affected you must actually be taken to a county court and lose, and on top of that refuse to pay the county court debt slapped on you.

Just a lot of hot air methinks!

Check out the youtube video of Watchdog about PPC's, that's always reassuring in times of worry!
  • You are quite right, though in their very rare visits to County Courts they have emerged losers which is why they don't do it... and the variety of sums which they try to claim wrecks their own case, because by law they can only claim the losses attributable to your supposed breach of contract... so if they keep asking for different amounts, or offer "discounts" its obvious they are not doing that. They lose every time against properly defended cases, which is why they stick to threats and bluff.
