Hi
My DGD starts school in September and I hope to buy her school shoes for her (will speak to mum/dad first).
I know I'm far too early asking this but when is the best time to buy them, ie I guess there is a fine line between being too early and going too late that there's none left. I know from work colleagues experiences that school uniform is usually snapped up early but I wondered about shoes.
Thanks

About a week or two before school starts. Feet can grow suddenly at that age and it would be a shame if shoes bought in July didn't fit in September.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I always go about 3 weeks before as the there is plenty of choice. My daughter tends to really scuff the toes so I always get Patent leather ones and they go first if you leave it too late. DD has never grwon out of school shoes - always destroyed them first!!I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be0

I end up buying new pairs at christmas because they scuff the september ones0

If you are planning on getting them from Clarks you can book an appointment at the store as in the lead up to the start of school they are mobbed, but booking an appointment means you bypass the queuing system.Booo!!!0

A week or so before they start school is fine, if they haven't got what you want in the size you need they usually order it in within a couple of days.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

that would also give her some time to "wear them in" round the house so they don't rub her at school0

i get my sons shoes at the start of the summer hols in time for september term, whilst there is more choice....
BUT
i buy them from a little independant shoe shop who will re-measure and exchange the shoes the week before term starts as long as the orignals have not been worn, may be worth trying in your local area?0 -
My son has always been difficult to buy shoes for (wide instep small heel) so I start in july just after school finishes and if I get some then will make sure there is lots of growing room. More often than not though we need two or more trips to actually find something. I left it until August one year and regretted it as they had almost nothing in store and I couldn't order as they would be unlikey to fit.MSE PARENT CLUB MEMBER.ds1 nov 1997ds2 nov 2007:jFirst DDFirst DD born in june:beer:.0
