cheapest dvd player divx

bought a pacific 1200mk2 dvd player from asda - but it isn't multi region:mad: , ive tried numerous codes  and some divx dvds work others dont - cant waste time with a dvd lottery:mad:
trouble is im getting very confused :confused: with multi region and more importantly divx - as i have copies of movies on dvd in divx that is what i will be playing in a dvd player
these divx dvds work perfectly on my samsung dvd combi and my friend has a cheapo 14inch tv dvd combi and they work perfectly on that
Worryingly some cheap dvd players are claimed as multi region "capable" - i dont want to waste time with complex codes as was case with pacific player, so what is the cheapest dvd "multi region divx plays every disc known to man playerTHNAKS

First... Does it state on the box or manual that your DVD is Multi-region capable????

If not who told you it was???

Also have you tried different disks for your DivX films...?? not all disks play in all players.. some can be really choosey

Also to make sure it plays everything you will have to get one that is also XVID capable as well..as some legal download sites also offer the XVID encoded films as downloads..

Philips DVP5960, ok I'll grant you, it's not the cheapist as such, but it will play everything. I was looking about 2 months ago and went through some cheaper models, some would play divx and not xvid, some would play both but would then mess up trying to play NTSC (the US tv system, there are a number of ways to convert and some are really, really bad).
It's multi with one 5 digit code and Philips upgrade the firmware on their website from time to time, it will also upscale if you have an HD tv. It even comes with a HDIM lead.
It's between 60 to 70 quid and, imho, well worth it.
  • Personally I wouldn't mess about with a DVD Player but get yourself a cheap Original XBOX and with a bit of softmod magic turn it into a Xbox Media Centre and it will play anything you throw at it, and even stream from your network.

But if it is really a cheap DivX DVD Player you want then you are not going to get one cheaper than this one :

Bush DVD2054 DVD DivX Player £23.49 (inc VAT)

Not 100% sure it's region free as its very new but I've not come across a Bush DVD player yet that doesn't have a remote hack.
  • I bought a multi region dvd player and it plays any format ive given it. It was from Richer sounds and was £30 all in and lets face it with their money back guarantee and after service you can't go wrong!!

    Its a wharfdale as well!!
Don't go for the daewoo one thats same money as its not as good as this one, you might have to phone around for one now though as theyre down to the last few.
    Thanks

  • packard bell divx350.
Got one on ebay for less than £30.
multi region by opening the draw, key in 75180, it'll say region ZERO on the screen, plays all divx fine.
but you gotta do the handset thing every time you wanna play a region 1/3/4/5/6 dvd cos when you switch it off, it forgets.
so either leave it on all the time or remember to key in 75180 before you close the dvd drawer.

We've just taken the Wharfedale 3210 back to Richer Sounds as it was unreliable in playing Divx movies depsite trying different discs. The guy in the shop gave us a refund without any problem and he'd just brought one back himself, so there should be a few about. Don't know why we had problems and still looking for a cheap alternative.
