can I check other people vehicles too?
What happened is that someone bumped into us, taken his reg, name etc but not insurance co.
He was very blaze about it, was not interested in our details and said that he was leaving the country that day!! I have a feeling he was not insured. So wanted to check this without going through my insurance first0 -
Yes. You can check if your own car is on the database, and for £4 you can get hold of another driver's details if you've been in a collision with them.bikebarbie wrote: »can I check other people vehicles too?

The third party insurance has been informed on the 10th. My husband chased today and they said that the fella is on holiday and cant hold of him. What happens now?
How long do we have to wait to get our car repaired??
Thanks
ps now wonder if he's going to try and pull a fast one to the insurance and claim that it didnt happen and he was not in the country!0 -
If you are certain there is no doubt on liability, then see if a claim handler will take your case.
If so, they will get things moving very quickly for you!!
(If not sure, then you can still use your own insurer, who would start things moving straight away (assuming you have comp cover) and if they get full recompense from the third party you will get your NCD reinstated and can claim your ununsured losses back from the third party (including the excess)0 -

Well yes, husband was hit from behind, he was at non fault (ie didnt brake unexpectedly etc)
Does it make a difference (detrimental to him) if he asks his insurance to deal with it? As he has been dealing with the third party only. And the other driver had the duty to notify his insurance prior to going on holiday too! :mad:0 -

The "detriment" is that he will have to pay his excess and reclaim it himself off the third party, and that his NCD will be impacted until his insurer Is repaid their outlay in full (by the third party insurer).0
