Hi, any recommendations as to which one to go for out of these two. the most important thing for me is the reliability of the backups.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

  • Haven't used Genie, but if it doesn't do cloning/disk imaging, trueimage or Norton Ghost might be better.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

A vote for True Image here :)
  • I vote Acronis, I had a couple of issues with ghost! Acronis has lots decent features as well, including backing up on to your computer and giving you the option to restore at boot up! Saves loads of time with installing windows!!!. When I was researching programs it got a lot of good reviews!

Will be using Acronis to back-up my laptop on monday then restore it to a different size drive, will let you know how it goes!

Thanks guys, I know that no backup software is 100% reliable but I had a couple of minor hitches with TrueImage not restoring perfectly which has slightly dented my confidence.
I read in few places that Genie is the most reliable and solid backup utility out there and thought of trying to get some reviews from the trusted MSEs. Thanks for your input.

I may take two images using both software, format and restore and then compare both processes. the worry is that it might all go pear-shaped....lol.

Will let you know how I get on......

Not logical I know, but not keen on a Norton for some reason.;)

  • Look past the brand - ghost's origins are from a different company.. Binary research/Powerquest.

Norton the brand name has a highly regarded history - Rolls royce of utilities in the 80's - google Peter Norton.

Symantec bought the Norton name, along with a whole host of best of breed companies/products (including ghost/Powerquest drive image/partition magic, backup exec), and everyone seems to associate the whole product range, with a slowish antivirus scanner.
