Hi everyone,
This may be a silly question but I have an interview next Tuesday and when it was being arranged, the employer asked me to bring along to the interview my passport, proof of my address and references. I didn't think about it at the time but by 'references' do they mean the contact details of my references or an actual reference itself? Thanks guys.

Usually I'd say names only, but as they're asking for full ID as well, I'd suspect they may mean full references. Might be worth calling and asking them.
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
Check with them but normally it would just mean contact details. If you brought them the reference itself it could well have been written by you0

Yes, this is very true. I would definitely struggle to get two references by next Tuesday anyway. I'll contact the company and find out. Thanks guys x0 -
It means the details of who they can contact for references.
I don't know any company that accepts pre-written references direct from applicants. They could be done by anyone!Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -

Thank you. That's good to know. The only reason I ask is because I wrote the details of my references in my application so assumed they already had these.0 -

Sorry, but I wouldn't assume that they only want names. The fact that they've asked for full ID suggests they do want references. I have had to take refs before, on company headed paper, to an interview.
It's unusual, but if they already have your details, want full ID and haven't asked for 'referees' but 'references', I would absolutely double check. Not worth not getting right, esp if you want the job!!

Yes, I think you're right. I've emailed the HR dept. I thogutht that if they wanted full references, the guy might have been more specific on the phone about who they required references from etc. Hopefully the HR department will get back to me today...0 -
Full ID means they need to check your right to the work in the UK.0

But they are required to see full ID before the job starts, so it's not unreasonable they are asking for it to be provided at interview (this happened at both of my recent interviews).
Anyway, we now know that it was only the names of referees so all is well. Good luck at the interview goldilockz.0
