Two direct debits that I have definitely not set up appeared on my Halifax online account this morning - no money has been taken as of yet and I have cancelled them and I will go to the bank shortly.
They were for Dennis Publishing (magazines so google tells me) and Pet Insurance (no more details provided).
Is there anything else that I need to do other than cancel and speak to the bank?
Slightly worrying.

Did you take out any of the trial magazine offers? Such as 6 issues for £1 and forget to cancel perhaps?"Sealed Pot challenge" member No. 138

No, I haven't taken out trials on anything 0 0

I think it's a cashback scam - usually it would be a lot longer before the duff DDs were noticed, the scamster would have their cashback and the insurance/publishing company would lose out0

Where would they have my bank details from?
Could it be a retailer cloning my card or something?0

On googling direct debit cashback scam I think you're right, see this thread OP

            How odd!
It could be that you clicked on something which had these in the smallprint. I know I'm sometimes guilty of ticking agreement to the 'terms and conditions' without reading it all through.0

            Thanks Queen....I will have a read....scary!
pineapple - possibly, although I couldn't imagine where....will talk to the bank.
 Thanks all.0

The bank won't sort it in branch. I have to phone the 24 hour customer line.
They did however try to talk me into upgrading my account.0
