Ok 1) don't panic - this won't be the fraud squad, this is the compliance department. There is just something on your claim that has flashed up on the computer. It could be anything, and they may just want to check how much money you have, or your rental agreement, or something. You are not going to be dragged off by the hair to jail. 2) You can ask them to come to the house, particularly since you have a disability. If you can't get someone to ring up then you can write to them. Is there anyone around who could ring up for you? Those letters are automated and I think are horrendous, as there are many people in your situation who get in a right panic over them, and it's usually just a computer blip. I did a search online when I got a similar letter and I was horrified to come across a blog where the woman who had mental health issues had a similar letter and was considering committing suicide before the meeting, it wouldn't surprise me if one day letters like this have this sort of result.

Agreed! I have had automated letter when I have been overpaid by literally £2 odd a week! You can't hand over your payslip until you get it at end of the Month and they send you this letter DEMANDING £2 overpayment you MUST repay IMMEDIATELY!! LOL! I have complained about them before and the staff agree but they are just standard letters.
  • Have emailed them and asked them to come to me whilst my daughter is on half term next week, explaining mental illness and anxiety/leaving house is issue for me.

My heart really goes out to you Matfoo, I suffered from terrible agoraphobia for two years when I was younger, and even when I was better going to the JC was like climbing a mountain. I really appreciate what you're going through. It will all be sorted out, it might just take a little while but it WILL get sorted, everything always does in the end. I can't even remember what I was worrying about a year ago, but I know at the time I felt my world was coming to an end.

I would never trust such an important communication to email. You just never know who's in-box it will arrive in or even if it will be read & actioned. Always best to write regarding anything of importance, so could you also write to them requesting a home visit (copy letter if possible) & ask your daughter to pop it in the post, or even in the letterbox of benefit office, if close to your home.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
  • Hi Matfoo, I understand how hard it is not to panic, but please try not to. I am in a very similar situation, but I have found people to be a lot more helpful than you may be thinking.
Unless you have had mental health problems, it is hard for some people to understand the panic you can get in.
