Good digital/analogue recorder

Hi.

I am after a hdd/dvd recorder that is able to get freeview and also has an analogue tuner.
I have a lead from downstairs Sky box into upstairs room that i use for the tv. I want to record from sky so need analogue tuner.
I used to have a Liteon recorder but need to upgrade.
Last week i got a LG rht497h but afet 3 days i had loads of problems with it so i sent it back. I done what i wanted to but not working well.
The sky box is HD+ and i record stuff on it but sometimes i will copy it to the upstairs recorder to watch at my own pace and not disturb other people.
I have looked at Panasonic but i think they only have digital tuner.

Vince

Well analogue will be obsolete in April. You mean you want a PVR that converts analogue signal to digital, surely? All Freeview PVRs do that. So, I recommend a Humax. Either:

    Humax HDR-FOX T2
    Humax HD-FOX T2
    Humax PVR9300T

    Thank you for the reply.
I am in Anglia/sandy Heath area and we are now fully changed over.
I need a recorder that is able to record digital and analogue as from a sky rf2 out is sent by analogue signal.
I have not seen a PVR that can record from both signals yet.
My old Liteon was not digital but to use it i had to get a freeview box into the loop to record digital from a scart and normal rf to record Sky.
I have loads of dvd's also so i need to have a dvd in the new unit and i know i can get a seperate player for that but with all the leads/cables and plugs i will need will look a mess.

If you don't mind a slightly older machine , I can highly recommend a Sony RDR-HXD870B. Other models in the same series were 970 and 1070 , the only difference being the size of the hard drive.

    Here's a review ... http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/dvd-recorder/sony-rdr-hxd870b/1067000/ ..

Really good machines that were all the rage a few years ago .. you can still get them on ebay!
  • I have similar requirements in that I take the RF output from a Sky box and distribute it elsewhere. I didn't get a hybrid recorder per se but a I fitted a hybrid TV tuner to a PC. If you just happen to have your PC in your upstairs private room then this can save on space. I have a Kworld hybrid TV tuner DVB-T 210. It records very well and saves the recording as an MPEG file on the computer HDD.
It's not my fault your honour, they made me do it.

Squire Fulwood. I did look at going down that route last year as the computer is in the same room but i think you need to have the comp on to record and i dont want to have it on 24/7.

Pikeyp. I have seen some Sony's on ebay and Amazon but as second hand i am wary that they will breakdown after a month and i will have spent all my dosh and cant get my money back unless you know of a place that gives 6-12 monthe warranty.

M5rcc. The problem with a pvr is that they only record from source and i think you cant record from a scart, usb or analogue aerial only digital.

I use thebox tv torrent site for english tv progs that i have missed and put them onto a dvd and use so i need to have a dvd drive in the new machine. The LG i got last week had usb port so that was easy copy progs onto usb and play on the tv through the dvd/hdd recorder.

Thanks for all the help and advice so far.

At the risk of sounding like a Kworld salesman I think I can correct one thing (or maybe two) in post #7. The Kworld software has scheduling device and only goes into record mode during the program being recorded. You may feel you don't want to play with the computer during that time but for rest (23/7?) the computer is available for use or can be switched off if you wish. One other point. The hybrid card works brilliantly with Windows Media Player but records the program in some weird format. If you want the program to be portable, like putting it on a stick etc. then use the Kworld software which records in MPEG2.

Squire Fulwood i meant that would i have to have my computer turned on to make a live recording say if i go out at 6am and the prog i want to record is on at 5pm will my computer need to be switched on for all that time as it uses the hard drive to store the prog then i think it would need to be left on.

Anyhow i came across this item http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-RD100-Digital-Recorder-Freeview/dp/B003LO2RJY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1329118184&sr=1-1

It will do what i want and has a usb port so i can get stuff of compter and play them on the unt. It states that it has a 1 year warranty but has anybody had any experiance using this company?.
Thank you again for the advice.
  • Something of your computer will have to be on when the recording starts and throughout the recording. Bits of it could possibly be turned off under power management but I have never looked into that. Anyway, if you have found something you like then all is well.

Amazon is something like a market place that directs you to a seller with your requirements. People on here report a variety of experiences but so far mine have all been good ones.

    I'd agree with this

Used mine pretty much every day for a few years and had no problems with it whatsoever (touch wood). It does everything very well
