Asrock K7S41 Help Required-Not Booting

I have an Asrock K7S41
The problem I am getting is quite strange
When I turn on the power the fan starts and nothing else seems to happen.
When I take out both the ide ribbons and then switch the machine on the hard drive and cd start.
I have tried the ide ribbons attached to the hard drive and cd but not to the motherboard and they start up
I have atached the ribbons individually to the hard drive and motherboard but nothing happens as well as doing this to the cd player.
I have replaced the ide ribbons with new ones and ones which I had spare but still the same result
I have cleared the cmos, changed the lithium battery and removed the only pci card, which is an Ethernet card.
It is only when I connect the ide ribbons to the motherboard that the hard drive and cd do not work.
Are the ide connectors broken and will I have to purchase a new motherboard

A recent problem? Have you just re-built the system, or did you just switch it on one day and this is the problem you had?

Looks like you have tried everything I would so assuming it just happened on its own , sounds like a duff board to me ...........
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!
  • I have built many machines with this particular board. If this has just happened after the machine has been working well previously, then it is certainly a duff board. In my memory though, this board is over 1 year old, so you have no claim on the warranty. If indeed it is less than 1 year old, then you can claim on the warranty.

By the way Asrock reccommend that the hard drive is connected to the primary ide channel, usually a different colour with the hard drive set to master and your cd on the other ide channel also set to master

have a look at http://www.asrock.com/manual/K7S41GX.pdf This will give you details of how the cables should be installed and what the bios is reporting as having connected. If all the cables, including the power cables, have been connected properly then the bios should see them. Something else to check is the you have the devices configured properly, i.e. one master and one slave device on each cable. to check this http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6603_7-5118840-4.html. the ide drive has a similar setup - look on the hard drive cover for details
  • Thanks for all your help
yes has been working fine for over a year now
just switched it on and now nothing working
as stated gone through all the things possible
will have to look for a cheap asrock motherboard as can't afford much
    once again thanks
  • the K7 is a SKT A board and the CPU is now discontinued, you may find it hard to source one from a retailer thats not online based.
we can probs still get one for you.
