Nationwide - Can I sue?

I got the letter a couple of months ago about the Nationwide incident with the stolen laptop. However a few weeks ago I got a call at work from there fraud department to say that my card details had been used in Boston, USA. And $500 had been taken. And furthermore it will take several weeks to get my money back. It seems a co-incidence that it happened after this thing with Nationwide, and how nothing was done at NW for 3 weeks. I can prove with my passport and being called at work the day after this happened that I wasn't in the USA.

Card fraud is a fact of life. You will find numerous postings from victims all over this site from all banks. I imagine that this event tying with the lap top theft is mere coincidence. I cant see what you would sue them over as they are going to refund you, so I suggest you just wait for your money, rather than wasting it on a court case.0

I also have Nationwide accounts, but so far have not been the victim of card fraud (touch wood). I doubt very much whether the OP's experience resulted from the theft of the laptop. And in any case, any damages awarded to him would reflect the distress and inconvenience s/he has suffered, and so would amount to a few pence.0

Yea, let's sue the whole world, it's so much more satisfying than working!
What is the matter with people?

How was there peoples bank account information stored on a laptop? Surely banks don't keep banking infomation on physical computers, but on central servers instead.0

Debit card information would not be stored on a laptop belonging to any bank, ever.

The letter sent out by Nationwide says
"The information did not include any PINs, passwords, account balance information or memorable data and I can reassure you that there has been no loss of money from out customers' accounts as a result of this incident"0 -

The size of the fine suggests different.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
Banks simply do not keep card details on laptops, so there is no way that the OP's card being cloned and used is any way related to this security breach at Nationwide!0
